Although, this is not the first time that the Senate has passed a Bill upgrading Yaba College of Technology. In fact, during the 8th Senate led by Senator Bukola Saraki, Senator Gbenga Ashafa sponsored a Bill to upgrade Yaba College of Technology to City University of Technology.
The Bill passed the 3rd reading in the Senate but President Muhammadu Buhari did not sign it into law.
Yaba College of Technology formerly called Yaba Higher College was founded in 1932 and served as the first educational institute to provide tertiary education in Nigeria.
